Tiny News Collective is delighted to announce the hiring of our first-ever Collective Fellow, Luisa Suarez, a milestone that reflects our commitment to strengthening the journalism support ecosystem and cultivating the next generation of media leaders. After an extensive search for an early-career professional who embodies curiosity, commitment and a community-driven mindset, TNC selected Luisa for the inaugural role. Her fellowship marks an important step forward as the Collective expands its mission- and member-driven work.
Luisa brings a strong foundation in community engagement and collaborative journalism. Before joining Tiny News, she worked at Resolve Philly, where she managed the Equally Informed Text Line and the Equally Informed Survivors Newsletter — two initiatives designed to connect residents with actionable information. In 2024, she launched an elections text line that helped Philadelphians stay informed and engaged throughout a busy election year.
A graduate of Temple University, Luisa participated in Next Gen Radio program, produced bilingual student TV shows and led a Latinx student organization, experiences that helped shape her approach to inclusive, service-driven media.
“I am eager to be a part of the TNC team as we work to support founders and strengthen our local news landscape and build trust within communities,” Luisa said. “As a young professional, this fellowship offers me the opportunity to learn, collaborate and grow with an organization whose mission I deeply believe in.” Her passion for community-rooted journalism aligns perfectly with TNC’s vision for the position.
The Collective Fellow role was created to build capacity within Tiny News while helping develop emerging talent for the broader journalism support ecosystem. Designed for early-career professionals with one to three years of experience, the fellowship provides hands-on opportunities to grow skills in community management, nonprofit operations and the unique challenges faced by small, community-driven news organizations. It reflects TNC’s belief that a more resilient news landscape requires investing in the people who will shape its future.
Luisa will play a key role in supporting this community by helping founders navigate their challenges and by strengthening TNC’s internal capacity to serve them.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Luisa to Tiny News Collective,” said Elaine Díaz Rodríguez, TNC’s membership director. “She brings a rare combination of hands-on experience, curiosity and genuine care for the communities we serve. Her instincts and dedication will deepen how we support founders every day, and I can’t wait to learn from her as we continue building this ecosystem together.”
Welcome to the team, Luisa! 💖
